The home of the Nanowrimo efforts of Heather Salmon, also known as

heddychaa

Isabel is a "southern barbarian", the sister of a Portuguese trader living in Japan at the height of relations between the two countries. Her brother is often at sea, away managing his affairs, and Isabel is left to stare out the windows of the house her brother built for her, watching the natives of the strange country around her peer in as though she were one of the animals brought in to enthrall them. One day, though, she catches the fancy of a samurai rising the ranks of Oda Nobunaga's infamous army, who woos her with anonymous poems written in shoddy Portuguese. The pair of them, now caught in a lurid, taboo affair and the growing instability following Oda's assassination, stumble upon the ugly secret behind Isabel's wealth that threatens to tear not only their relationship, but the relationship of their countries, to shreds.
